Yorktown to Hold Special Election on July 23

Yorktown will hold a special election on July 23 to fill a vacancy on the Town Board.

The special election fills a seat left empty by Supervisor Ed Lachterman, who assumed the supervisor’s role after an April 16 special election. The Town Board vacancy is due to the sudden death of Supervisor Tom Diana in January.

On Tuesday, the Town Board voted for the late-July special election because the unfilled seat has three and a half years remaining in its term.

Town Board members stated that they preferred to have the special election in the summer instead of during the presidential election in November so that Yorktown residents can focus on the local candidates without the distraction of a presidential contest.

Early Voting for the Special Election will be held from July 13 – July 21.
